Glossary
Polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride - Scientific name for Bakelite.
Carbolic Acid / Phenol - Phenol, also known as carbolic acid, is an aromatic organic compound with the molecular formula C₆H₅OH. It is a white crystalline solid that is volatile. The molecule consists of a phenyl group bonded to a hydroxyl group.
Formaldehyde - Formaldehyde is an organic compound with the formula CH₂O or HCHO. It is the simplest aldehyde, and is also called by its systematic name methanal. The common name of the substance comes from its similarity and relation to formic acid.
Synthetic - (of a substance) made by chemical synthesis, especially to imitate a natural product.
Plastic - A synthetic material made from a wide range of organic polymers such as polyethylene, PVC, nylon, etc, that can be moulded into shape while soft, and then set into a rigid or slightly elastic form.
Technology - The application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry.
Invention - the action of inventing something, typically a process or device.
Moulded - A shaped cavity used to give a definite form to fluid or plastic material.
Discovered - Find something unexpectedly.
Scholarship - Academic study or achievement; learning at a high level.
Doctorate Degree - A doctorate is an academic degree or professional degree that, in most countries, qualifies the holder to teach at the university level in the specific field of his or her degree, or to work in a specific profession.
Manufacturing - Make (something) on a large scale using machinery.
Chemical composition - In chemistry, the empirical formula of a chemical compound is the simplest positive integer ratio of atoms present in a compound. A simple example of this concept is that the empirical formula of hydrogen peroxide, or H2O2, would simply be HO.
Laboratory - A room or building equipped for scientific experiments, research, or teaching, or for the manufacture of drugs or chemicals.
Acid - A substance with particular chemical properties including turning litmus red, neutralizing alkalis, and dissolving some metals; typically, a corrosive or sour-tasting liquid of this kind.
Resist - a resistant substance applied as a coating to protect a surface during a process, for example to prevent dye or glaze adhering.
Scientific - Based on or characterized by the methods and principles of science.
Substance - A particular kind of matter with uniform properties.
Assistant - A person who ranks below a senior person.
Knowledge - Facts, information, and skills acquired through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject.
Electronic - (of a device) having or operating with components such as microchips and transistors that control and direct electric currents
